24 Jan Byron Bay Vintage Shopping
When you’ve had enough sun, surf and beaches, it’s time to hit the shops with my local’s guide to vintage shopping in Byron Bay.
There’s a good reason why this boutique has a cult-like following. Their vintage finds are all perfectly on-trend for festival dressing.
Think gold lurex jumpsuits, 70’s shredded rock tees, worn-in leather moto jackets, embellished kaftans, white leather flares and Daisy Duke style tops. It’s pure retro glam.
Brahminy Exchange is waayyyy more than just a shop. It’s a vintage movement that’s hell-bent on making you look cool-as-hell.
Trash Byron Bay
There is always a place in my wardrobe for some of Trash Byron Bay’s rockstar-worthy threads.
Channeling Cher, you’ll fall in love with their insane collection of authentic 70’s and 80’s vintage including platform shoes, glittery scarves, oversized sunnies, go-go dresses, 70’s appliqué tees, (faux) fur jackets, shearling, cropped tanks, wide-brimmed felt hats, knee-high boots, paisley bell bottoms and velvet jackets.
Each and every piece appears to have been hand-picked with casual glam in mind (and a “I’m with the band” ethos), perfect for festivals, tour buses, drinking Tequila Sunrises, listening to vinyl, combi-cruising or reading your zodiac.
Whether it’s trippy and bright, shimmery and metallic, flowery and delicate or the lushest velvet imaginable, Trash Byron Bay will leave you dazed and infused with free-loving style.
Miss Brown Vintage
This vintage shop is not to be missed if you’re visiting Byron Bay. It features high-quality, romantic, boho-style women’s clothes and accessories. From stellar vintage denim, tasselled jackets (plus vests and bags), leather boots, off-the-shoulder 1970’s dresses, vintage tees, huge sunglasses, leather belts and platform wedges.
Basically, if Led Zeppelin were female and a vintage clothing store, they’d be Miss Brown Vintage. If you’ve been there before, you’ll know what I mean. This is a very cool little vintage shop.

Vintage architectural enthusiasts, renovators, interior designers and industrial furniture lovers should most definitely make a pit stop at Fossil Vintage.
They import many of their pieces from Europe, so you’re guaranteed to pick up hard-to-find items such as huge 1920’s copper cauldrons, rustic workbenches, 100-year-old wooden ship wheels, Turkish marble sinks, steel medical cabinets, huge warehouse lights, a 1940’s Romanian pommel horse (you know you want one?!), church windows and so much more. In fact the list of must-have’s is so long it’s a little overwhelming. But in a good way!
Forget the beaches, sunshine and clean Byron air. This shop is what I love about Byron Bay. But be prepared to be heartbroken. It’s almost impossible to decide what you’re going to leave behind.
This shop is always packed with retro-lovin’ babes in high-waisted denim, off-the shoulder gypsy blouses and platform shoes. I’m not kidding. This is where the beautiful people shop. And it’s little wonder, with its to-die-for collection of glamorous boho vintage dresses, clothes, shoes and accessories.
Whether you’re looking for a fabulous getup for Falls Festival or Splendour in the Grass, a pair of sequined hotpants to ring in the New Year or a fringed shawl to swan around the bay in, this is the place to pick up some retro finery.
This building has seen some serious action!
Originally a piggery built in 1898, the building realised its true calling in the 80’s and became one of Australia’s all-time legendary live music venues.
Bought by local hippy Danny Doepel, the old piggery on the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ was transformed and is famous for hosting such bands as The Ramones, The Pogues, Violent Femmes, The Divinyls, BB King, Blondie and New Order (in a town of only 4,000 people). It was glorious!
Nowadays it houses Pighouse Flicks, the perfect place to see arthouse flicks, classic reruns and film festivals.
